The Clearwater RC&D Council, Inc., is an organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of north-central Idaho by maintaining and improving the economic, social and environmental conditions within the region. The council is the governing body of the Clearwater RC&D Area. The Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area is a locally initiated, sponsored and directed program in which the public, primarily through their elected representatives, work to enhance the quality of life through projects and activities emphasizing land conservation, community development, water management, and other environmental concerns. The Clearwater RC&D Council became interested in MIRA based on the council member's desire to enhance the Council's organizational capacity to serve the various sponsors and affiliate groups with whom it works. The Council wanted to increase its use of modern information technology since, unlike a growing number of the groups and organizations with which the Council works, the Council had not been able to take advantage of many of the products and services made possible by technological advances. In order to reach its goals, the Council obtained modern computing and telecommunications equipment with the necessary software. MIRA funds were also used to provide the technical assistance needed to set up the equipment and train the staff in its use. Due to this technological upgrade, the Council was then able to use e-mail and the internet for more efficient information gathering and dissemination. The Council also developed its own web site where Council information could be shared and exchanged with others as needed. Participation in the MIRA program has enhanced the Council's working relations and networking with the other CSOs in Idaho. The Council has also mastered new technical skills and trained office staff, as well as increased their knowledge base about information technology. |
