The goal of the Elsa Public Library MIRA project is to provide adult learning services for the Delta area. These include GED, ESL, Citizenship programs, and support for college entrance and high school graduation exams.

In order to strengthen it's organization, Library staff used its MIRA funding to conduct site visits to other adult education programs to observe their best practices and use of technology. From there, they designed and created new instructional programs for students. The result was improved access to computer and video-based programs for students, and a wider variety of classes during evening and weekend hours.

So far the effort has benefited both the library and the patrons. Library faculty have formed new partnerships with other adult serving programs in the Delta area, and have greatly increased their knowledge about the use of technology in adult education.

The community has benefited from the creation of a permanent facility for adult education in the Delta area. A higher percentage of students have passed the GED, ESL and citizenship exams. And a greater number of those adult learners are continuing their education within and outside of their programs.
