El Telar, which means the Loom in Spanish, weaves together the resources of the San Luis Valley; its history, people, businesses, and natural beauty. Started in 1984, El Telar was funded by the Colorado Advanced Technology Institute as the San Luis Valley's Rural Telecommunications Project. El Telar provides free e-mail access to all Valley residents and Internet access and web presence to non-profits, educational institutions and public libraries. Their modem pool consists of eight 56K modems, with telephone lines provided by Adams State College, and serves the 8,100 square miles that comprise the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado. |
