The Federal Hocking MIRA team recognized a need for access to technology in their community. They knew that their community did not have a space where computers, Internet services, copiers and other communications technologies were made available to the public. The team wanted to create a new technology center that would be accessible to all members of their community. The team planned to use a vacant space available at Federal Hocking High School and equip it with two computers, a printer, a scanner, a fax machine and a copier. They also intended to purchase software and Internet access for the computers. The team also hoped their project could become self-sustainable. Since the technology center would be located in the high school and staffed by students working on internships and senior projects, the team knew the main focus for sustainability was supplies. With the remainders of the MIRA grant, the team planned to stock up on printer paper, ink cartridges and other necessary supplies. They would then work on a plan for further purchases in the future. |
