Jacweb has served as Jackson County, Ohio's home on the world wide web for over five years. It provides residents and visitors information on living and learning in Jackson County, Ohio.

As a MIRA grantee, Jacweb team members wanted to revamp the web site in a variety of ways. They wanted to update the site, provide online opportunities for local businesses and create a forum for technology training for residents.

First, the team moved the site from its existing UNIX based system to a Windows NT system. This move allows individuals to create pages for the site and increases the number of volunteers that can help with the web site. The move was also a money saving action since the new server is half the price of the old server.

In order to provide online opportunities to local businesses, the Jacweb team decided to build and maintain sites for several local Jackson County businesses. The first of these businesses is Tim's Woodshop located in Jackson, Ohio (www.timswoodshop.com). Owner, Tim Crabtree has had a web presence since 1996, when he put up a single page on the Jacweb site. Crabtree was excited when the opportunity to build his own site for his business was presented to him.

The team also planned to assist the public with obtaining Internet skills by offering training sessions. The team proposed renting a computer lab, developing courses and hiring instructors to offer ten sessions to the public.
