One
important Kona industry is their coffee industry. Due to lack of
recognition in the County General plan revisions, the importance
of the coffee industry to the people was unknown to the politicians
making the revisions. Thanks to the information gathered in the
Kona MIRA team's survey the plan revisers are now aware of the importance
of coffee and other agricultural products to the people of Kona.

From the Report on the Community Survey on the Hawai'i County General Plan: "Agriculture was one of the top three choices for economic development. Seventy-three percent thought this is where the County should be putting its emphasis for economic development. The majority of comments called for more self-sufficiency and the need to diversify our products. Others mentioned developing more opportunities for ag-tourism." |
