The communities of Lacona, New Virginia and Milo joined forces to complete the requirement to receive the MIRA grant. The communities then divided the grant among themselves and worked on separate, yet similar projects.

The Lacona team wanted to increase technology and internet access and knowledge within the community. With the MIRA grant money the team purchased a computer, printer and scanner for the library. This equipment was made available to the public, the first public internet access site in the community. Since few citizens of Lacona have personal computers and/or internet access, the technology available at the library is very popular.

In addition to creating their community's first public internet access site, the Lacona team also hosted local training for the library staff and other trainers. The staff was then used to assist the public.

Finally, the Lacona team created a community website. This site contains information on the community, including its history, economic development, organizations, school district, businesses and churches.
