The Chester-Shade Historical Association is restoring Ohio's oldest standing courthouse, built in 1823 in Chester, Ohio. It will be an Appalachian Community Center that celebrates our culture and heritage. Our goal is to offer educational programs and artisan training in addition to promoting our tourism industry.

This building will also be a museum with local artifacts displayed. To record and access historic resources, electronic equipment will be needed: Multi-function computer unit, (scanner, copy printer), digital viewcam, digital camera, tape recorder, and television-VCR unit will be purchased with Kellogg Managing Information With Rural America funds.

The Appalachian Cultural Center will provide space for:

  • Training for local people to become skilled craftsman
  • Craft demonstrations for visitors
  • Outlet for Appalachian products
