The Priest River MIRA project is the first phase in a long-range goal to establish a community center in Priest River. The Priest River Community Center Project connects their community to the world and to each other so that their citizens are more informed, involved and productive. They value education and communication and have an appreciation of the natural beauty of the Priest River area. They believe in promoting the abundant opportunities for personal and community growth that are available to them. The MIRA project specifically focuses on the Priest River's city public library by enhancing its capacity to function as a center for learning and communication. The project also laid the groundwork for a comprehensive plan to improve the quality of life for Priest River residents on educational, cultural, sociological, and economic levels. In order to accomplish their goals, the Priest River team purchased needed computer equipment, updated their library's capacities, and educated their citizens in the use of the new equipment. They also created a web page for their community to inform people of what the Priest River area has to offer. As part of their MIRA project, the Priest River team also hired a grant writer for a three-month period to find additional grants for their community in order to continue with their long-range goals. They conducted asset mapping in their community and build a database for use in achieving their long-range goals as well. Most importantly, the team informed, involved, and educated to community in general regarding their MIRA project. |
