Neighborhood Networks is a program started by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help empower individuals and move them into a more profitable lifestyle. Each center is customized to suit the needs of a particular area. There are over 400 centers nationwide, with this being the first in Southwest Virginia. The Pulaski Team agreed to use their money to help the Neighborhood Networks Computer Center get off the ground. Their generosity paid for the grand opening celebration, countertops for the computers, chairs, an assistant coordinator, software, and more. The computer center is housed at the Meadowview Apartments, but is also available to the residents of the Washington Square Apartments. Neighborhood Networks staff are currently in the process of developing a curriculum to advance the computer and job skills of residents. Instruction will be given to people of all ages and in all walks of life. It is the goal of Neighborhood Networks to advance children in their studies and to help adults add to their marketable job skills. |
