From the Taos MIRA website (this site is no longer available online): The Village of Questa is located 25 miles north of Taos, New Mexico on State Highway 522 and is part of the Enchanted Circle Drive. The hamlet of San Antonio del Rio was the northern most settlement of Colonial Spain and later provincial Mexico. Bordering the Apache and Ute frontiers easly residents dedveloped a profound sense of independence and self-sufficiency. The interdependence of community is rooted in relationships with family being the basic unit as social organization. The early 1800's is said to be the first written ndates that a settlement was established. San Antonio del Rio Colorado was later named "Cuesta", a Spanish word for large hill or cliff. In the ealt 1860's a postmaster took the decision upon himself to change the spelling of Cuesta to Questa. The name remains. The Questa Team strives to build on our relational strength by being inclusive to intergenerational learning. Linking the experiential wisdom of our elders with the technological knowledge of our youth is the objective of our project. We plan to incorporate intergenerational relationships between three to four generations and history of generations past. The Questa Project will promote intergenerational learning with the youth teaching the elders the use of computers and the elders teaching the youth their history and culture. The youth and elders will build a web presence for Questa, including the values, traditions and customs that are being forgotten. Our community has over 200 years of history to preserve and make available to the public. |
