The CSOs of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Southeastern Ohio were funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission in a partnership with Kellogg. The Sunday Creek Associates is a non-profit community development organization. It is located in rural Southern Perry County, Ohio, one of the poorest regions in the state. Instead of providing direct services to the community, the Associates act as community organizers in many areas including local history and culture, youth support through recreation and the arts, restoration of the build environment, and community organization and initiatives support. As a MIRA CSO, it was the goal of the Sunday Creek Associates to build the organization's capacity in order to provide support for the emerging MIRA teams, as well as initiatives already in existence in the community. To achieve their goals, the Associates added to their technical resources by purchasing a copy machine and upgrading its computer equipment. The Associates also recruited new funders and worked with the Ohio MIRA teams by providing technical assistance and collaborations. As a result of their involvement with MIRA, the Sunday Creek Associates were able to upgrade their technology and provide support to the Ohio MIRA Teams. The Associates have also seen their community benefit greatly from the MIRA activities in Southern Perry. |
