The MIRA team of Wray, Colorado wanted to expand the community's access to a greater variety of information sources, including technology sources such as internet, outside of the classroom or office.

The Wray team's project focused on the three areas of community involvement, current technology, and increased user availability. The team wanted not only to include the community of their small rural town of 2,000; they also wanted to include the residents of the surrounding area of approximately a 30-mile radius. More specifically the team wanted to make technology available on a flexible basis to citizens who might otherwise be unable to use current technology.

In order to accomplish this goal, the team purchased a multimedia PC, a scanner, a printer, a projector system, a digital camera, software, and other computer equipment. This equipment was used to open a multimedia computer workstation in the Wray Rehabilitation & Activities Center (WRAC). The WRAC offered daily hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., making it an attractive host for the workstation. The team hopes to make this station self-sustaining, based on a nominal usage fee or through matching funds from local resources.

The Wray team chose this particular project by involving the entire community in the decision making process. The team ran ads challenging citizens to submit ideas for a technology-based project that was community-oriented and self-sustaining. The team then reviewed the suggestions and discussed other ideas and concerns. The ultimate decision of a multimedia computer workstation came from the combination of the ideas from a Wray MIRA team member and from a middle school student.
